Faces of Death: How to Cheat Death



Change isn’t the only thing that is permanent in this world. It is true that even in a fraction of moment or second, a lot could change. The world we know right now will be likely to change in the next few years. But if there is another thing that is permanent in the world, that is death.

Regardless of a person’s status in the society, color, race, gender, or belief, death will surely come to everyone. It is something that even top pre need companies in the Philippines and elsewhere could not prevent. As a matter of a fact, the estimated death each day all over the world is 151,600. Whatever comes after death or after a person dies is still full of mysteries. There are many speculations and beliefs on what happen after death or if there is really something that comes after death. Some are anchored on religion while some are based from myths. None of these beliefs have been verified yet but the very idea of death strikes fear and apprehension into many people’s hearts and thus supernatural traditions have spring forth to mitigate some so mysterious.

Some people just admit the fact that humans are powerless creature to prevent death and resort to seeking assistance from top pre need companies to help them manage & prepare for what might come. Some however cling to some beliefs that death is something that can you can delay or overcome. The following are some Filipino beliefs and pop-culture stories on how you can cheat death:


1. Eating Pancit—

Birthday in the Philippines will never be complete without a serving of spaghetti or pancit. Many Filipinos believe the Chinese tradition that serving something lengthy like pancit (birthday noodles) can actually lengthen your life. While this claim isn’t entirely false since eating healthy has been scientifically proven to prolong life, it is still trivial to think that a simple food actually can actually delay death.


2. The Fountain of Youth—

The Pirates of the Caribbean will be returning to cinemas this 2017. But in the previous instalment, On Stanger’s Tide, the movie has featured a way to cheat death—the fountain of youth. The fountain of youth is believed to restores the youth of those who will drink the water from it. This legend has been a prominent story in the 16th century and has jumpstarted many expeditions. 


3. Anger a God—

If you are a fan of the Greek Mythology, you could have already known that the Greek gods are bunch of not forgiving fellows. Tantalus has once punished Sisyphus to stand on a lake with fruits but without being able to satisfy his thirst or his hunger. Another story involves King Ixion who was punished by Zeus to be strapped on a flaming wheel. Cruel punishments but hey, at least they live forever.


4. Wishing Upon a Dragon—

A huge part of the Filipino pop culture are anime series. While probably some of the biggest plots revolve in the struggle for ultimate power, no one can probably forget the power of a certain the Dragon and the seven objects that you need to gather to summon him. In the series of Dragon Ball, it is believed that you can obtain the ultimate power by wishing upon Purungga, a dragon who can grant the wishes of whoever can gather the seven dragon balls. Some characters in the series are even brought to life again with the help of the said Dragon. Yes, we are looking at you Krillin.
